Cusco is renowned as the historic capital of the Inca Empire and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is famous for its well-preserved colonial architecture, vibrant cultural heritage, and as a gateway to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
The Sacred Valley offers a range of activities, including exploring ancient Inca ruins such as Ollantaytambo and Pisac, visiting traditional markets, experiencing local culture, and enjoying outdoor adventures like hiking and biking through picturesque landscapes.
To reach Machu Picchu from Cusco, you typically take a train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, the town closest to Machu Picchu. From Aguas Calientes, you can take a bus or hike up to the Machu Picchu archaeological site.
Machu Picchu is one of the most iconic and well-preserved Inca archaeological sites. It was built in the 15th century and is believed to have served as a royal estate or religious retreat. Its remarkable stonework and stunning location continue to captivate visitors worldwide.
The best time to visit Cusco and Machu Picchu is during the dry season, from May to November. This period offers clearer skies and more pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for exploring outdoor sites. The rainy season, from December to April, brings wetter conditions but fewer crowds.
