During the journey, you may encounter incredible Amazon wildlife, such as capybaras, tapirs, and even the majestic jaguar, which some guests have been lucky enough to spot and photograph.

Upon arrival at the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, you will witness one of the most spectacular wildlife experiences in the Amazon, as hundreds of parrots and macaws gather to feed on mineral – rich clay, an essential part of their diet that helps neutralize toxins.

You will observe several species of macaws in brilliant colors of red, green, blue, and yellow. On a good day, you may see hundreds of these magnificent birds flying overhead, creating an unforgettable natural spectacle.

After breakfast, you will return by boat to the lodge area along the Madre de Dios River, where you will be welcomed with refreshing fruit juice.

After check-in and lunch, you will visit Monkey Island, located across the river from the lodge.

Here, you will observe different species of monkeys in their natural habitat, including brown capuchins, squirrel monkeys, and saddle backed tamarins.

In the evening, you will join a night excursion in search of white caimans along the sandbanks of the Madre de Dios River. With a flashlight, you may also spot capybaras along the riverbanks.

After returning to the lodge, you will enjoy dinner and rest surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the Amazon rainforest.

Day 3Amazon Lodge – Lake Sandoval

After breakfast, you will embark on a 3 km guided hike through the dense Amazon rainforest to reach Lake Sandoval, one of the most important lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve.

There, you will board a traditional rowing canoe to explore its calm waters, surrounded by untouched jungle.

During the journey, you may observe a rich variety of Amazon birdlife, including shanshos, cormorants, jacanas, herons, hawks, and other birds of prey native to the ecosystem.

You will also have the opportunity to see howler monkeys, brown capuchin monkeys, tamarins, and sloths in their natural habitat.

With some luck, you may encounter the giant river otter, an endangered species that can reach up to two meters in length and is rarely seen in the wild.

After the boat excursion, you will return to the lodge to enjoy a traditional lunch.

In the late afternoon and evening, you will join a guided night walk to discover the Amazon rainforest’s nocturnal wildlife, including insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other night-active species in their natural environment.
