Inca Jungle Trek + Short Inca Trail 4 Days – At a Glance.

Day 1: Cusco – Santa María – Inca Jungle Trek – Santa Teresa.

Depart early from Cusco and travel to Santa María. Begin your Inca Jungle hike through lush rainforest, coffee plantations, and fruit orchards. After trekking, relax in the soothing Cocalmayo hot springs before overnight accommodation in Santa Teresa.

Day 2: Santa Teresa – Lucmabamba – Llactapata – Aguas Calientes.

Travel to Lucmabamba and hike the original Inca Trail to the Llactapata ruins, where you’ll enjoy distant views of Machu Picchu. Descend to the Hydroelectric station and take the train to Aguas Calientes for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Aguas Calientes – Km 104 – Inti Punku – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes.

Walk along the railway to Km 104 and enter the classic Inca Trail. Hike past Wiñaywayna and arrive at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), enjoying your first unforgettable views of the citadel.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu Tour – Cusco.

Rise early for a guided tour of the Machu Picchu Citadel, exploring its most important temples and structures. In the afternoon, return by train and private transport to Cusco.

  • Hotel Pick up: We will pick you up from your hotel starting at 4:30 a.m.
  • Transport from: Cusco to Abra Malaga ( starting point of the excursion) .
  • Professional English/Spanish speaking tour guide: Spanish, English and Quechua speaking guides will accompany you during the excursion, to immerse you in the history, culture and conclude 2 hours and 30 minutes guide tour in Machu picchu.
  • Entrance ticket to Short Inca trail and Machu Picchu: Generally, the Machu Picchu entrance ticket is scheduled for 7:00 or 8:00 a.m.: CIRCUIT 02 (subject to availability) and, alternatively, CIRCUITS 01 and 03 (subject to availability). During the high season, tickets can be difficult to get, but don’t worry: we are here to help you get them in Aguas Calientes.
  • Accommodation: Stay overnight at a cozy hostels in Santa Teresa and Aguas Calientes villages, giving you a comfortable rest before your next day’s adventure.
  • First Aid kit: For your safety, our guides carry a fully equipped first aid kit and are trained to handle emergencies promptly and effectively. Your well being is always our top priority.
  • Train Back tickets from: Aguas Calientes – Ollantaytambo (expedition/standard class).

Excludes

  • Meals: Please note that breakfast on Day 1 and lunch and dinner on Day 4 are not included in the package.
  • Extra food and Snacks: If you want extra snacks or drinks, you can easily buy them either in Cusco before the trek or during the excursion. Local shops along the route offer items like cookies, sodas, and bottled water to keep you fueled and refreshed.
  • Hot Springs: Relax and unwind after your trek at the local hot springs. In Santa Teresa, the entrance fee is 10 Soles and In Aguas Calientes, it costs 20 Soles. Both offer a perfect way to soothe your muscles and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
  • Round Trip bus tickets from: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes. You can purchase them in Aguas Calientes or after visiting the site. Each way costs US$12. Alternatively, you can walk- it's about 1 hour and 30 minutes each way.
  • Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain Hike: $70 USD (optional, upon request). After the main tour, you can hike up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain.

What to Bring:

  • Original Passport Required: Please remember that a copy of your passport is not accepted. You must carry your original passport, which should be valid for at least six months from your entry date to Peru. Also, make sure your passport has at least two blank pages available for entry and exit stamps.
  • Student ID Requirements: If you’ve booked the Inca Jungle Trek as a student, you must present a valid student ID card issued by your university. This ID should have : Be for students up to 25 years old, Include your university’s information, Display your personal details and a student photo, Have a valid date no later than December 31 of the travel year Make sure to bring this with you to benefit from any student discounts or special arrangements.
  • Good-Quality Daypack: It’s essential to have a comfortable, lightweight, and compact backpack to carry your belongings during the trek. A good-quality daypack makes it easier to keep your essentials handy without weighing you down.
  • Water Bottle or CamelBak: Make sure to bring a water container that can hold at least 2 liters of water. It’s important to choose a bottle or CamelBak that can keep your water cold, so you stay refreshed throughout your trek.
  • Trekking Poles: We highly recommend using trekking poles during the excursion—they provide extra support and make hiking easier. If you don’t have your own, you can rent them from us.
  • Hiking Shoes: Make sure your hiking shoes fit well and are properly broken in before the trek. This will help prevent blisters and keep your feet comfortable on the trails.
  • Insect repellent:Be sure to bring insect repellent with at least 15% DEET to protect yourself from insect bites and avoid discomfort. While there have been no reports of malaria risk in the area, using repellent is essential for a more comfortable experience.
  • Bring Extra Money: Please remember to bring some extra cash for any unexpected expenses during the trip. We recommend carrying about 300 soles (around 90 USD) in cash to cover emergencies or additional purchases.
  • Personal Medication: Be sure to bring any personal medication you need, along with a basic first aid kit, to stay prepared throughout the trek.

A 6% PayPal fee applies, bringing the total to US$ 212.00 per person.

Note: A deposit of US$ 200 plus a US$ 12 PayPal fee per person is required for all tours and treks lasting 2 days or more.

The tour will not be confirmed without a completed booking form and a deposit sent to Peru Travel. The deposit is US$ 200 per person and is non-refundable. Up-Grade to Vistadome Train:  

The return train includes the Expedition or Voyager service, both offering panoramic windows for scenic views.

For a more immersive experience, you can upgrade to the Vistadome train for an additional US$ 60 per person. The Vistadome features a glass ceiling and onboard entertainment like traditional dancing and live music.

This upgrade is only available at the time of booking the Excursion and cannot be changed later.

If you are going on the Inca Jungle Trek, the ideal to prepare your backpack in advance. We recommend that you bring a small backpack, and leave your bigger one at the hostel in Cusco. Make sure you only bring your necesary things you will need for 4 days of the trek

During the days on the trek, Remember, you will be carrying your backpack with you for the entire trek, so you should carry a light, comfortable and good quality backpack. due to regulation issued by the local government, your backpack should not exceed 25 litres in sixe and large bags are not allowed to be carried inside Machu picchu, if you have one make sure that your largae backpack looks as small as possicle to carry inside Machu picchu.

  • Hats and sunglasses: The sun is intense at high altitude and you should protect your eyes from the glare. Wear one that offers UV protection and is comfortable.

  • Rain gear: The trail can be wet especially in the rainy season. Have quality gear and clothing with materials such as Gore-tex that will keep your skin dry while you perspire during the hike.
  • Warm clothing: During the excursion, where the temperature fluctuates during the day and night, it is mandatory to have good clothing equipment such as: fleeces, long-sleeved shirts, down jackets and a waterproof layer.
  • Sunscreen: Choose a good sunscreen (high factor) and apply it before starting the hike and regularly during the day if you are sweating.
  • Hand sanitizer: Carry a good hand sanitizer to disinfect hands before eating, drinking and after using the bathroom. We recommend carrying a small bottle of hand sanitizer throughout the day.
  • Snacks: bring snacks that are rich in energy and easy to digest. This, because chocolate bars or cookies are not ideal, as they can be heavy for the stomach and leave you with an impression of sluggishness, so we recommend taking granola bars or a mixture of nuts which will give enough energy to perform the walk.
  • Extra money: take money preferably in soles for drinks, tips and souvenirs: during the excursion you will find facilities or bathrooms where you will have to pay for the use of some of them.
Itinerary

Day 1Cusco -Santa Maria - Inca Trail - Santa Teresa.

At 5:00 a.m., you will depart from Cusco toward Santa María on a scenic 4-hour drive. From there, you’ll begin a beautiful 3.5-hour hike along the Inca Jungle Trail, making your way through lush forest, fruit orchards, coffee plantations, and coca leaf fields.

After your hike, you’ll head to the Cocalmayo hot springs, where you can soak in the naturally warm waters perfect for relaxing your muscles and unwinding after a rewarding day of trekking.

You’ll spend the night in Santa Teresa, resting and preparing for the next stage of your adventure.

Day 2Santa Teresa - Lucmabamba - Llactapata - Aguas Calientes.

At 7:00 a.m., you will depart for Lucmabamba, a scenic 35-minute drive away. From Lucmabamba, you will embark on the original Inca Trail leading to the summit of Llactapata—a rewarding 3-hour hike. At the top, you can admire the stunning distant views of Machu Picchu’s ancient constructions from the ruins of Llactapata.

Afterwards, you will descend for approximately 2 hours through beautiful terrain until you reach the Hidroeléctrica train station. In the afternoon, you will board a 30-minute train ride to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes), where your journey continues.

Day 3Aguas Calientes - Km 104 - Inti Punko - Machu picchu - Aguas Calientes.

At 5:30 a.m., you will begin your walk from Machu Picchu Pueblo to kilometer 104 along the railway, following the course of the Urubamba River. This initial segment is a pleasant, semi-flat walk that takes approximately one and a half hours. Upon reaching kilometer 104, you will present your entrance tickets and passports to access the official Inca Trail network.

From there, you will ascend Wiñaywayna mountain, enjoying a scenic 3-hour hike until you arrive at the impressive ruins of Wiñaywayna. After exploring these ancient remains, you will continue walking for about 2 hours towards Machu Picchu, passing through the Inti Punku (Sun Gate) ruins. Along the way, take in the breathtaking views both before and after Inti Punku, culminating at the iconic Machu Picchu viewpoint.

Day 4Aguas Calientes - Machu picchu citadel - Cusco.

In the morning, you will board the bus at the entrance of Machu Picchu and embark on a two-hour guided tour inside the magnificent Inca Citadel. During the tour, you will explore various significant Inca temples and structures, including the Temple of the Sun, the royal tombs, the Inca palace, the House of the Chosen Ones of the Sun, the Temple of the Condor, and more.

In the afternoon, you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo, where a private transfer service will be waiting to take you back to Cusco, completing your unforgettable journey.
