Your adventure begins early with a departure from Cusco toward the fascinating archaeological site of Ninamarca, where you’ll explore the ancient “Chullpas” tombs—mysterious pre-Incan burial towers that offer a glimpse into Peru’s rich past.
Next, you’ll continue to the charming colonial town of Paucartambo, full of vibrant culture and history. From there, prepare for an ascent to the Acjanacu Pass, the gateway to the spectacular Cultural Zone of the Manu Biosphere Reserve.
Here, the lush cloud forest thrives at elevations between 2,000 and 3,500 meters, providing a sanctuary for rare and endemic wildlife, including the iconic Cock of the Rock and the elusive Spectacled Bear.
As night falls, you’ll settle into the cozy Orquídeas de San Pedro Lodge, surrounded by blooming orchids and ancient tree ferns, ready to rest and prepare for the adventures ahead.
Rise early to witness the spectacular mating display of the Cock of the Rock at a nearby lek — a vibrant and unforgettable wildlife experience. After breakfast, you’ll journey through stunning canyons en route to Pilcopata.
From there, head to Atalaya Port where you’ll board a boat for a scenic ride to Erika Lodge, nestled within our private reserve. This unique area marks the transition between the high and low jungle and features an intricate network of trails just waiting to be explored.
As evening falls, unwind at Erika Lodge, where the enchanting sounds of the jungle create a natural symphony just for you.
Depart Erika Lodge by canoe, gliding peacefully down the Alto Madre de Dios River. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for a variety of birds that thrive along the riverbanks and forest edges.
You’ll make a refreshing stop at Boca Manu Village, a vibrant community nestled in the heart of the rainforest. After some time here, continue your journey to Blanquillo, where you’ll spend the night.
For those interested, an optional nocturnal walk offers a fascinating glimpse into the mysterious nightlife of the forest, revealing creatures and sounds that only come alive after dark.
Venture out before dawn to a nearby Parrot Lick and watch as parrots and macaws feast on mineral-rich clay a breathtaking display of nature’s vibrant colors and rhythms.
After breakfast, visit the Park Rangers Headquarters at Limonal, where you’ll learn about the crucial conservation efforts protecting this incredible reserve.
Next, you’ll navigate up the Manu River to Salvador Lake, entering the pristine heart of the Manu Biosphere Reserve. The wildlife diversity here is truly astonishing, offering unforgettable encounters.
You’ll spend the night at our cozy base safari camp near Salvador Lake, immersed in the untouched wilderness.
Start your morning with a serene catamaran ride on Salvador Lake, keeping an eye out for playful Giant Otters, lurking caimans, and a rich variety of birds.
After lunch, embark on a hike to Otorongo Lake. Climb its observation tower for stunning panoramic views and even more opportunities to spot wildlife in their natural habitat.
As night falls, return to Salvador Lake for a nocturnal wildlife watch aboard the catamaran, where the jungle’s nighttime residents come alive under the stars.
Embark on a final morning walk around Salvador Lake, savoring the last moments in this vibrant and diverse ecosystem. Take in the sights, sounds, and snap those unforgettable photos.
Then, begin your journey back down the Manu River, carrying with you vivid memories of the wild. You’ll stop again at Boca Manu Village before continuing along the Madre de Dios River to Boca Lodge, where you’ll spend your final night surrounded by the jungle’s peaceful embrace.
If you’re up for it, join an optional night walk to uncover even more of the forest’s nocturnal secrets under the stars.
Begin your return journey up the Alto Madre de Dios River. Depending on river conditions and the weather, you might spend the night camping on a peaceful beach within the Cultural Zone, immersing yourself in the sounds of the rainforest.
Alternatively, you may return to Erika Lodge for a final night surrounded by the lush beauty of the jungle, reflecting on the incredible experiences you’ve had.
Depart early from Atalaya, where your bus will be waiting to take you back to Cusco. Depending on your schedule, you’ll arrive late at night or early the next morning, marking the end of your unforgettable expedition through the heart of Manu.

The early morning departure allowed us to explore the ancient “Chullpas” tombs of Ninamarca, followed by a visit to the charming colonial town of Paucartambo. Ascending to the Acjanacu pass and entering the Cultural Zone, we marveled at the diverse cloud forest, home to the vibrant Cock of the Rock and the elusive Spectacled Bear. The overnight stay at Orquídeas de San Pedro Lodge was enchanting, surrounded by lush orchids and ancient tree ferns.
The adventure continued with early wildlife watching, including the Cock of the Rock’s mating display, and an exciting boat ride to Erika Lodge in a private reserve.
