Itinerary

Day 01Puerto Maldonado - Amazon Lodge - Monkey Island.

Begin your journey with a transfer to the port on the Madre de Dios River, followed by a one-hour boat ride to the Monte Amazon Lodge. Upon arrival, you will receive a warm welcome and be offered a refreshing glass of local fruit juice. After settling into your room, prepare for a two-hour introductory walk through the rainforest.

Accompanied by experienced local guides, you will explore trails filled with ancient trees and vibrant wildlife such as toucans, orioles, macaws and monkeys. You will be right next to the Tambopata National Reserve, where you can experience the magic of the forest and its incredible biodiversity.

Cross the river to visit Monkey Island and observe a family of capuchin monkeys in their natural habitat.

As night falls, join an exciting torchlight search for white alligators along the river and keep an eye out for capybaras, the world’s largest rodents. After your adventure, return to the lodge for a delicious dinner and a well-earned rest.

Day 02Lodge - Sandoval Lake.

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before setting off on a three-kilometre trek through the lush jungle to the stunning Sandoval Lake, a hidden gem within the Tambopata National Reserve.

Once you reach the lake, hop into a paddle canoe and glide across its calm, mirror-like surface , it’s the perfect way to get up close to the vibrant local wildlife.

Keep your eyes peeled for piranhas, colourful birds and howler monkeys. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the rare and elusive giant otters.

After your adventure, head back to the lodge for a traditional lunch inspired by local flavours. Spend your afternoon relaxing or enjoying the beautiful sunset over the Madre de Dios River from the lodge’s viewpoint.

Rise early at around 5:30 a.m. for a short walk to the lodge’s canopy walk-way. Ascend to 40 meters above the ground to experience the rainforest from a unique perspective.

This elevated walkway offers panoramic views of the Madre de Dios River and surrounding rainforest, enhancing your chances of spotting various tropical bird species, including toucans and macaws, in their natural habitat.

Enjoy your final breakfast amidst the soothing sounds of the rainforest at the lodge. After breakfast, pack your belongings and prepare for departure.

Our staff will assist you with a smooth transfer back to the city, where you’ll continue your journey either to the airport or bus station.
