  • Briefing before the tour: There will be a briefing the day before the tour. It will be at around 7:00 p.m. Our staff will lead it. Please tell us the name of the hotel where you are staying in Cusco.
  • Hotel Transfer: You will be picked up from your hotel in Cusco and taken to Hidrolectrica. After your trip, you will be transferred back to Cusco.
  • Guided tour: A professional guide will accompany you during your visit at Machu Picchu, providing valuable insights and information.
  • Entrance Ticket to Machu Picchu: Your entry is typically scheduled for 9:00 AM or 10:00 AM for Circuit 01, 02, or 03. After that, enjoy a 2.5-hour guided tour to explore the secrets and wonders of Machu Picchu. We handle the purchase and secure your entrance tickets to Machu Picchu, subject to availability.
  • Accommodation: Stay overnight at a cozy hostel in Aguas Calientes, giving you a comfortable rest before your next day’s adventure.

Excludes

  • Meals: The package price does not include any meals, such as breakfasts, lunches, dinners, or snacks. You'll need to budget for and make your own arrangements for meals at local restaurants or cafes in the towns you visit.
  • Extra hikes in Machu picchu: Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain are optional treks within Machu Picchu Citadel which do not include a guide. The climb is usually done on your own after your tour of Machu Picchu Citadel. If you would like the extra hike to be guided, please request in advance. There is an extra cost for this extra guided tour., Tickets for Huayna Picchu or Machu picchu Mountain: cost them 60 dollars each one.
  • Bus tickets up and down in Machu picchu: The buses going up and down are not included, so you can buy a ticket in Aguas Calientes or after Machu Picchu. It costs 12 dollars for each way, but you can also walk for 1 hour and 30 minutes from Aguas Calientes.
  • Hot springs : If you want to relax at the Aguas Calientes thermal baths, there is a small entrance fee of 20 soles per person. You can pay this fee when you arrive.
  • Important Note: The trek between Hidroelectrica and Aguas Calientes, as well as the hike from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu, is self-guided. However, rest assured—we will provide you with all the necessary information, including detailed directions and your hotel address, to ensure a smooth experience. Many travelers choose this alternative route to reach Machu Picchu, as it offers a scenic, safe, and relatively easy walk through picturesque valleys.
  • Alcoholic beverages: If meals are included, they usually do not include alcoholic beverages, which must be purchased separately.
  • Tips for Guides and Staff: Gratuities for guides, drivers, and other personnel are not included in the tour price. While tipping is optional, it is a kind gesture and greatly appreciated when you receive good service.

Recommended to carry

  • Original Passport: You can't use a copy of your passport; you need to make sure your original passport is valid for at least six months to enter and leave Peru. Also, make sure your passport has two blank pages for the stamps when you come in and out.
  • Student ID: Required only if you booked Machu Picchu tour as a student. Your student card must be issued by your university (for travelers up to 25 years old) and include university details, your personal info, a photo, and a valid date no later than December 31 of the travel year.
  • Insect repellent: Use one with at least 15% DEET. Although there’s no reported malaria risk, it’s important to prevent bites and stay comfortable.
  • Tennis shoes: Tennis shoes or hiking boots that grip well are important when walking on uneven and steep lands.
  • Comfy clothing: Dress for cold and windy weather, and be sure to bring a waterproof and windproof jacket.
  • Good daypack: Choose a comfortable, lightweight, and compact backpack to carry all your belongings easily throughout the day.
  • Sun Block : Make sure you take sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat to protect yourself from the sun at high altitudes.
  • Emergency money: Be sure to carry extra cash for any unexpected expenses during your trip. It’s recommended to bring around 300 soles (about 90 dollars)
  • Personal Medication: Don’t forget to bring your own medicine and a basic first aid kit for the trip.
  • Hats and sunglasses: The sun is intense at high altitude and you should protect your eyes from the glare. Wear one that offers UV protection and is comfortable.
  • Rain gear: The trails can get wet during the Tour, especially during the rainy season. Make sure to bring quality waterproof gear and clothing made with materials like Gore-Tex to keep you dry while staying comfortable as you hike.
  • Warm clothing: Since temperatures can vary a lot between day and night, it’s essential to bring proper gear like fleeces, long-sleeve shirts, down jackets, and a waterproof outer layer to stay comfortable throughout the tour.
  • Hand Sanitizer: Always carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer with you to disinfect your hands before eating, drinking, or after using the bathroom. It’s an essential item for maintaining hygiene during your trip.
  • Snacks: Bring high-energy, easy-to-digest snacks for the trek. Avoid heavy options like chocolate bars or cookies, which can cause sluggishness. Instead, opt for granola bars or a mix of nuts—these provide sustained energy without upsetting your stomach.
Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Hidroelectric – Aguas Calientes.

Your journey starts early in the morning. Between 6:00 and 6:30 a.m., our driver will meet you at your hotel in Cusco for a scenic 1.5-hour drive to the charming town of Ollantaytambo. Here, you’ll have a brief stop at a local restaurant where you may enjoy breakfast, grab a coffee, use the restroom, and pick up any last-minute items you may need (expenses not included).

After this break, you will continue on a 6-7 hours drive through the breathtaking inter Andean valleys. As the landscape transitions from highlands to jungle, you’ll experience the diverse ecosystems of the Peruvian Andes an unforgettable part of the journey.

Upon reaching the Hidroelectrica station, you’ll have some time to rest and enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants (at your own expense). Afterward, you’ll begin a three-hour hike along the railway tracks toward Aguas Calientes, the gateway to Machu Picchu.

This walk, surrounded by lush cloud forest, offers the chance to observe local wildlife and vibrant flora. If you’re lucky, you may even spot the cock of the rock, Peru’s national bird, along the way.
Once you arrive in Aguas Calientes (altitude: 2,000 meters), you will head to your designated accommodation to check in and unwind. Later, you can enjoy dinner at a local restaurant of your choice (not included), and spend the evening relaxing in preparation for the incredible visit to Machu Picchu the following day.

Day 2Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Hidrelectric – Cusco

Rise early and prepare for one of the most anticipated moments of your journey the visit to Machu Picchu. You will begin your day with a short 30-minute bus ride or walk up from Aguas Calientes to the entrance of the citadel, followed by a brief walk to the iconic Machu picchu.

Upon arrival, enjoy a comprehensive two hours guided tour of this ancient Inca sanctuary. As you explore the magnificent stone structures and terraces, your guide will share fascinating insights into the history, culture, and remarkable engineering behind Machu Picchu. Take time to appreciate the spiritual ambiance and panoramic views that make this UNESCO World Heritage Site truly unforgettable.

After the guided visit, you will make your way back to Hidroelectrica, either by foot along the same scenic route you arrived on or by pre arranged transport if available.

Once there, you will board the return bus to Cusco, a journey of approximately 6 – 7 hours through the diverse and majestic landscapes of the Andes.

Important Note: Please ensure you arrive at Hidroelectrica no later than 2:00 PM (Peruvian time) to board the return transport to Cusco on time. This ensures a smooth and safe journey back to the city.

By the end of the day, you’ll arrive in Cusco with incredible memories and stories of your adventure to one of the world’s most iconic archaeological wonders.

The journey began with an early pickup from our hotel between 6:00 – 6:30 am, setting the tone for an exciting day ahead. Our first stop was in Ollantaytambo, where we had the chance to marvel at the breathtaking landscape for about 20 minutes. The views were truly spectacular, and it was the perfect start to our adventure.

Next, we continued our drive to Santa Teresa, where a delicious lunch awaited us. The van ride offered glimpses of the stunning Sacred Valley of the Incas, adding to the beauty of the journey.

After lunch, we embarked on the next leg of our journey, heading to Hidroelectric. From there, we began our hike along the train track towards Aguas Calientes. The hike was approximately 3 hours long, but the scenery along the way made it all worth it. We were surrounded by lush greenery and towering mountains, making for a truly unforgettable experience.
