Your journey will continue to Abra Málaga (13,682 feet), after which you will descend into La Convención. You will pass through areas such as Alfamayo, Amaybamba, Huyro, Huayopata, and Quintalpata before reaching Santa Teresa.
Approximately 2 km further, you’ll arrive at Chaullay (6,170 feet),, where the Urubamba and Vilcabamba rivers converge. From there, you’ll begin a gradual ascent through Lucuma, the main village of the Vilcabamba region—an area known for its fertile agricultural lands and fruit production. Your walk continues through Naranjal, located 3.5 km from Chaullay, and then to Paltaybamba (17 km from Chaullay).
The group will stop in Huancacalle around 3:00 p.m. for lunch. Just 30 minutes away, you’ll explore the archaeological site of Vitcos (Rosaspata), where you will spend the night.
You will begin your second day from Huancacalle at 7:00 a.m. After approximately four hours of trekking, you will reach Totora Huayco (1,890 meters). From there, you will ascend for about one hour to reach the Jasutina Pass, where the group will stop for lunch.
Following the break, you will descend for around three hours until arriving at Racachaca, where you will enjoy beautiful views of the snow-capped Lasoma peak. Here, you will set up camp for your second night.
On the third day, you will begin your hike from Racachaca at 7:00 a.m., gradually ascending toward Pumaccasa Pass. Along the way, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of Yanacocha Lagoon and, shortly after, reach the pass itself. From this vantage point, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of snow-covered peaks such as Pumacillo and the serene Soyroccocha Lagoon.
After a relaxing lunch by the lagoon, the trek continues to the Mojon Pass, the highest point of the entire journey. Here, you’ll witness breathtaking sights of the majestic Salkantay and Veronica mountains, and even catch a glimpse of Huayna Picchu in the distance.
The day concludes with a long descent of approximately four hours through changing landscapes until you arrive at Mutuypata, where the group will set up camp and rest for the night in a peaceful natural setting.
You will depart from Mutuypata at around 7:00 a.m., beginning a scenic descent toward the town of Yanatile. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to relax in the natural hot springs by the Sacsara River and admire the lush vegetation and wildlife of the stunning Yanatile Valley.
From Yanatile, you will board local transport for a 40-minute ride to the town of Santa Teresa. Upon arriving at a suspension bridge, a short 15-minute walk will take you to La Oroya, where another local bus will bring you to Hidroeléctrica, the gateway to Machu Picchu.
After enjoying a well-deserved lunch at Hidroeléctrica, you’ll continue your trek on foot to the town of Aguas Calientes, following a picturesque path alongside the railway. Upon arrival, you’ll check into a comfortable hotel and spend the night resting and preparing for the highlight of your journey: your visit to Machu Picchu.
On the final day of your unforgettable journey, you will rise early to catch one of the first buses to the majestic citadel of Machu Picchu. The ride takes approximately 25 minutes, winding through lush mountain landscapes as the anticipation builds for the moment you reach one of the most iconic archaeological wonders in the world.
Upon arrival at the entrance to Machu Picchu, you will be met by your professional guide, who will lead you on a fascinating two-and-a-half-hour tour of this sacred site. As you walk through the ancient stone structures, your guide will bring the history, spirituality, and genius of Inca architecture to life—explaining the significance of temples, terraces, and hidden corners that once served as the heart of a great civilization.
Following the guided portion, you will have some well-deserved free time to explore Machu Picchu at your own pace. This is your chance to pause, reflect, and truly absorb the magic of this UNESCO World Heritage Site perhaps taking photographs, enjoying the views, or simply sitting in silence to connect with the energy of the Andes.
Around 1:00 p.m., you will descend by bus back to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will have time for a relaxed lunch and the opportunity to stroll through the local artisan markets, or perhaps enjoy a final coffee with a view of the Urubamba River.
Later in the afternoon, you will board the train for your return journey to Cusco. The ride offers one last chance to take in the incredible landscapes of the Sacred Valley as you reflect on the memories and experiences of the past few days.
