Machu Picchu entrance tickets. Stay informed about the latest updates on visitor capacity limits, special dates, and ticket booking procedures to ensure smooth entry and a seamless, unforgettable experience at the ancient citadel.

Each year, Peru’s Ministry of Culture (Mincul) officially finalized and published the updated Machu Picchu visitor capacity for the 2026 season in the Peruvian Official Gazette at the end of October 2025.

According to Peru’s Minister of Culture, daily access to Machu Picchu is strictly regulated through a limited number of entrance tickets.

This capacity varies by season and is temporarily increased during key dates on Peru’s national calendar and peak tourism periods in Cusco, the region where Machu Picchu is located.

Tourism High Season:

Cusco’s high season is marked by a stable, dry climate with predominantly sunny days, mild afternoon temperatures, and distinctly cool nights. These favorable conditions make it the most reliable time for outdoor activities and trekking experiences, including the iconic Inca Trail.

This ideal weather drives peak tourism demand, prompting Peru’s Ministry of Culture to implement dynamic increases in daily visitor capacity. During this period, strict timed-entry circuits are enforced to manage visitor flow and ensure the long-term preservation of the archaeological site.

High Season Period: May to October
Daily Visitor Capacity: 5,600 visitors per day

Tourism Low Season:

The low season is characterized by lush green landscapes and frequent, sometimes sudden rain showers ranging from light drizzle to heavy rainfall. Days are often cloudy, though they are occasionally brightened by brief sunny intervals—or even unexpected full days of sunshine.

Lower visitor demand during this season allows the Ministry of Culture to reduce daily entry capacity. This adjustment helps protect the site from increased moisture-related wear while aligning with naturally reduced tourism levels.

  • Low Season Period: November to April
  • Daily Visitor Capacity: 4,500 visitors per day

Special Dates & Peak Capacity:

According to the latest resolutions issued by the Ministry of Culture (Mincul), the maximum daily entrance capacity for Machu Picchu in 2026 has been officially set at 5,600 tickets per day during peak periods and major holidays, including:

  • January 1 – New Year’s Day
  • April 2–5 – Semana Santa (Easter Week)
  • June 19 to November 2 – Primary Peak Tourist Season
  • December 30–31 – Year-End Holidays

Where to Buy Machu Picchu Entrance Tickets:

Entrance tickets can be purchased either online through the official Machu Picchu ticketing website or in person at authorized ticket counters. However, due to strict daily capacity limits, it is strongly recommended to book well in advance—regardless of the purchase method.
