Itinerary

Day 1Puerto Maldonado - Lodge - Monkey Island.

We will pick you up from the airport, bus station, or your hotel in Puerto Maldonado and transfer you to our office, where you’ll receive all the essential information about Amazon tour. From there, you’ll enjoy a scenic one-hour boat ride to our Amazon lodge, where a refreshing local fruit juice will be waiting to welcome you.

After settling into your room, you’ll embark on a two-hour guided hike through the lush tropical rainforest, led by one of our expert local guides. Along the way, you’ll see huge trees some over 500 years old. You might also see toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes and colourful butterflies.

This hike allows you to experience the magic of the Amazon right inside the huge 278,000-hectare Tambopata National Reserve.

After lunch, you’ll visit Monkey Island, which is located just across the Madre de Dios River from the lodge. Here, you’ll have the chance to observe several species of monkey close up, such as: brown capuchins, squirrel monkeys, saddleback tamarins, and white-faced capuchins.

in the evening, you will look for caimanssearch along the riverbanks. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a capybara, the world’s largest rodent, which can weigh up to 60 kilos. After the adventure, head back to the lodge for dinner and a restful night.

Day 2Amazon Lodge - Sandoval Lake - Puerto Maldonado.

After an early breakfast, you’ll take a short boat ride to the entrance of Lake Sandoval. After you check in at the reserve’s control point, enjoy a scenic 3-kilometer walk through the jungle to reach the lake. It is one of the largest and most biodiverse lakes in the Tambopata National Reserve. There are lots of different animals, especially piranhas, at Lake Sandoval.

Once you arrive, your guide will take you out in a rowing boat to explore the lake and spot amazing wildlife such as: hoatzins, cormorants, pumas, herons, eagles, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, black capuchins, tamarins and sloths.

If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the endangered giant river otters, which can grow up to nearly two meters in length or even spot the largest recorded caiman, measuring over four meters long!

After this unforgettable experience, you will return to the lodge for a traditional lunch before heading back to the city.
