Begin your Rainbow Mountain tour with an early hotel pick-up in Cusco between 4:00 and 4:30 a.m., and embark on one of Peru’s most popular high-altitude trekking experiences. Next, you will head to the trailhead at 4,600 metres, where your guided trek through the Peruvian Andes will begin. During the hike, you may catch a glimpse of llamas and alpacas in their natural habitat, all the while surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. After trekking for around 1 hour, you will reach the famous Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), one of Peru’s top natural attractions and a must-do Cusco day trip, at 5,036 m.

The day began with an early pickup from my hotel in Cusco, setting the tone for an exhilarating journey ahead. The scenic drive to Cusipata village provided glimpses of the breathtaking Andean landscape, preparing us for the awe-inspiring sights to come.
Upon arrival in Cusipata, we enjoyed a hearty continental breakfast, fueling our bodies for the trek ahead. The van then took us to Phula Wasipata, the starting point of our trek, where we were greeted by the majestic Andean peaks towering above us.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the hike to Rainbow Mountain. The 1:30-hour trek to the summit rewarded us with panoramic views of the vibrant colors and unique geological formations that make this mountain a natural wonder. Standing at 5,020 meters above sea level, surrounded by such beauty, was a truly humbling experience.
