Itinerary

Day 1:Welcome to the Tambopata Amazon Jungle Adventure

You will be picked up from the airport, bus station, or your hotel in Puerto Maldonado, Peru, and transferred to our office, where you will receive all the essential information for your Tambopata Amazon Tour and Amazon rainforest adventure.

If you are traveling with large luggage, don’t worry — you can easily repack and leave unnecessary items at our office. You will only take what you need for your Amazon jungle experience, making your journey lighter and more comfortable.

Afterwards, you will board a 4×4 vehicle for a two-hour drive through the lush landscapes of the Tambopata rainforest, heading toward the Tambopata River. (This route replaces a longer six-hour river journey, giving you more time for wildlife encounters and jungle activities.)

At the riverbank, a motorized boat will take you deep into the Amazon rainforest in Peru, where your Amazon jungle lodge in Tambopata is located.

Depending on your arrival time, you will be welcomed with a delicious breakfast or lunch at the lodge — the perfect way to recharge before your first Amazon wildlife experience.

In the afternoon, you will begin your immersion into the Tambopata Amazon jungle on a guided walk. Along the way, you will discover incredible Amazon wildlife in Peru, including insects, amphibians, reptiles, monkeys, and other exotic species in their natural habitat.

You may even experience unexpected wildlife encounters. This is your first real connection with the Amazon rainforest ecosystem and the beginning of your unforgettable Peru Amazon jungle adventure.

Day 2:Lodge – Macaw Clay Lick (El Chuncho)

At 4:30 a.m., you will embark on an unforgettable boat journey to El Chuncho, the largest macaw clay lick in the world, located in the heart of the Tambopata Amazon rainforest near Puerto Maldonado, Peru.

As you cruise along the Tambopata River in the soft light of dawn, keep your eyes open. You will be entering the territory of some of the most iconic Amazon wildlife in Peru. With a bit of luck, you may spot capybaras, the world’s largest rodents, tapirs, and even the elusive and majestic jaguar.

Upon arrival at the clay lick, you will witness a truly magical natural spectacle. First, you will see flocks of up to 11 species of parrots gathering along the mineral-rich clay walls beside the river.

Then comes the highlight of the experience: the arrival of the macaws. You will watch them fly across the sky in brilliant colors of red, green, blue, and yellow before landing to feed on the essential mineral clay.

This natural behavior is vital for their digestion, and it creates one of the most spectacular birdwatching experiences in the Amazon rainforest.
