Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – Cusipata - Santa Lucia – Waqra Pucara – Cusco.

The tour begins with pickup from your hotel around 4:30 a.m. Once the entire group is in the van, you’ll travel for three hours to the village of Santa Lucía. During the journey, you’ll stop in the village of Cusipata for a buffet breakfast.

Once you arrive in Santa Lucía, you’ll take take a 15-minute drive along a zigzagging road to the starting point of the trek (Punta Carretera). There, you’ll prepare before beginning the trek to Waqrapucara.

The trek takes 1 hour and 30 minutes and covers 2.5 Kilometros along a moderately difficult trail that offers beautiful views of the mountains, inter-Andean valleys, and farmers grazing their llamas and alpacas.

You’ll arrive in Waqrapucara at around 9:30 a.m. where, the guide will provide valuable information about the architecture and history of this impressive archaeological site. Take some time to take photos and absorb the energy of this sacred site.

Afterwards, you’ll return along the same route to Punta Carretera, enjoying the scenery again as you descend.

Then, you’ll take the van back to the village of Cusipata, where you’ll enjoy a delicious buffet lunch featuring local ingredients.

Finally, you’ll return to Cusco (Plaza de Armas), arriving at 6:00 p.m.

My trek to Waqra Pukara was an unforgettable journey through the heart of the Andes. The early morning pickup from Cusco was seamless, and the drive to Acomayo was filled with anticipation for the day ahead.

The traditional breakfast in Acomayo provided a taste of authentic Peruvian cuisine, fueling us for the trek ahead. The 3-hour journey to Waqra Pukara was filled with stunning vistas of the surrounding valleys, showcasing the natural beauty of the region.

Exploring the ruins of Waqra Pukara was a highlight of the day. The site’s historical significance and mystical atmosphere left a lasting impression. The lunch provided was delicious and much-needed after the trek.
