This park spans an impressive 15,328 km², with an extended area including a Biosphere Reserve and a Cultural Zone, culminating in a vast expanse of 18,811 km². Celebrated as Peru’s largest National Park, Manú’s reputation has soared since its designation as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1977 and a World Heritage Site a decade later, attributes that highlight its global ecological significance.
Manú National Park’s isolation has been its shield, preserving a wide array of ecological zones that ascend from 150 meters above sea level in the Southwest Amazon moist forests to the lofty Central Andean wet puna at 4200 meters.
This dramatic topographical diversity supports an extraordinary array of biodiversity, hosting over 15,000 plant species and up to 250 tree varieties within a single hectare. Birdwatchers from around the globe flock to Manú, drawn by the chance to witness over 1,000 bird species, surpassing the combined avian diversity of the United States and Canada.

We’ll pick you up from your Cusco hotel around 6 a.m. and take you to the heart of the Manu Biosphere Reserve.
You’ll visit the ancient Ninamarca burial towers (chullpas) and take a step back into Peru’s pre-Columbian history.
Then, you’ll continue to the colonial town of Paucartambo, which has colorful streets and a rich Spanish heritage. Next, we will ascend to the 3,500-meter-high Acjanaco Pass, the gateway to Manu’s cultural zone.
There, you can explore the cloud forest, a lush world of epiphytic plants, vibrant wildlife, and unique species. Try to spot the striking Cock of the Rock, and if you’re lucky, the elusive Spectacled Bear.
This extraordinary ecosystem, located between 2,000 and 3,500 meters above sea level, teems with life at every turn.
End the day at the Orquídeas – Pilcopata Lodge, which is located within this fascinating landscape. There, you can relax and take in the beauty of Manu.
Wake up early and head to the viewing platform to witness the vibrant mating dance of Peru’s national bird, the cock of the rock.
After breakfast, take a walk through the forest to observe the local wildlife, including monkeys and birds.
Then, you´ll visit coca plantations and a wildlife rescue center. Next, travel to Puerto Atalaya, located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River at an elevation of 500 meters.
Afterwards, you’ll travel by boat to observe a wide variety of birds, including herons, vultures, and cormorants, before arriving at the Amazon Manu Lodge. Then, you’ll board the river for a delicious lunch.
In the Afternoon, You’ll visit a swamp where you can observe birds such as toucans, woodpeckers, macaws, and other birds.
you’ll also go caiman-watching, which are particularly prominent at night. Later, you’ll return to the lodge.
Very early in the morning, we´ll board a small boat and head to the Macaw Clay Lick. This is a wall along the riverbank, where different species of parrots, such as the blue-headed parrots, the white-eyed parakeets, and the chestnut-fronted macaws, gather every morning.
There, you’ll observe the parrots detoxifying by eating mineral-rich clay, which aids digestion and the elimination of toxins. Afterwards, you will return to the lodge for a delicious breakfast.
After breakfast, you’ll take a 2 to 3 hours walk through the forest.
Then, you’ll return to the lodge for lunch and a chance to rest or swim in the river. Return to the lodge fpr lunch.
After lunch, You’ll take a short boat ride and trek through vibrant trails to reach the lake of Machu wasi. Use a telescope to birdwatching experience and spot great egrets, tucanets, and more.

In the Afternoon, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy breathtaking views of the jungle as you fly through a canopy or zip line between platforms built high in the trees. All equipment used is high-quality and safe. After gliding at high speed through the canopy of the stunning Amazon rainforest, you’ll rappel 20 metres to the ground.
At night, you’ll observe the jungle’s nocturnal life, including a variety of frogs and insects, under the cover of darkness.
After breakfast, enjoy watching hummingbirds flit around the lodge before departing by boat back to Puerto Atalaya.
From there, board a van back to Cusco, stopping along the way for lunch. You’ll arrive in Cusco between 5 and 6 pm.

Day 3 includes a guided walk along the riverbanks in the transitional zone between high and low jungle, a visit to Machuwasi Lake for birdwatching, and experiencing the nocturnal life of the jungle.
Accommodations are provided at Orquídeas de San Pedro Lodge and Erika Lodge, both situated within the Amazon rainforest, offering rustic comfort and immersive experiences amidst the diverse ecosystems of the Manu Biosphere Reserve.
On the final day, travelers witness one of the Amazon’s spectacular natural phenomena at a clay lick, where vibrant parrots and other bird species indulge in mineral-rich clay, providing a fantastic opportunity for up-close wildlife observation and photography.
Our four-day adventure through the Manu Biosphere Reserve was an extraordinary experience! On Day 1, we departed from Cusco and visited the ancient Chullpas of Ninamarca, followed by a tour of the charming colonial town of Paucartambo. The journey to San Pedro Lodge through the lush cloud forest, home to the stunning Cock of the Rock and Spectacled Bear, was breathtaking. The tranquil surroundings of the Orquídeas de San Pedro Lodge made for a perfect overnight stay.
Day 2 started with witnessing the mesmerizing mating dance of the Cock of the Rock. We then traveled to Pilcopata and took a scenic boat ride to Erika Lodge, where we explored the rich biodiversity through guided hikes. Day 3 included a visit to Machuwasi Lake for birdwatching and a thrilling nocturnal wildlife exploration. On the final day, an early morning boat ride to a nearby clay lick provided an unforgettable wildlife spectacle, with vibrant parrots indulging in the mineral-rich clay. Returning to Cusco in the late evening, we reflected on the incredible beauty and diversity of the Amazon. This journey left us with cherished memories of the vibrant ecosystems and the serene lodges we stayed at.
