Itinerary

Day 1Puerto Maldonado - Tambopata Amazon Lodge

You will be picked up from the airport, bus terminal, or your hotel in Puerto Maldonado and taken to the office for registration. It is recommended to travel light so you can better enjoy your experience in the Peruvian Amazon rainforest.

Then you will travel by 4×4 vehicle for approximately 2 hours to the banks of the Tambopata River. From there, you will board a boat and begin a journey deep into the heart of the Amazon rainforest of Peru, surrounded by tropical landscapes, natural sounds, and incredible biodiversity, until you reach the Tambopata Amazon Lodge.

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed at the lodge, complete check-in, and enjoy a traditional Amazonian lunch prepared with local ingredients.

In the afternoon, you will take an introductory jungle walk through the Tambopata rainforest. During this activity, you will experience the rich biodiversity of the Tambopata National Reserve, including monkeys, exotic birds, amphibians, reptiles, and insects in their natural habitat. This first experience will allow you to connect with the jungle and enjoy an authentic adventure in the Amazon rainforest Peru.

Day 2Macaw Clay Lick (Collpa Chuncho) & Lake Sandoval

Very early in the morning, around 04:30 a.m., you will begin a boat excursion to Collpa Chuncho, the largest macaw clay lick in the world and one of the main highlights of the Peruvian Amazon.

During the navigation along the Tambopata River, you may observe wildlife in its natural environment. It is common to see capybaras along the riverbanks, tapirs moving through the forest, and, with some luck, even the majestic Amazonian jaguar.

Upon arrival, you will enjoy a camp-style breakfast surrounded by pristine rainforest before witnessing one of the most impressive natural spectacles in the world: hundreds of macaws and parrots of different species flying and feeding on mineral-rich clay, a vital behavior for their survival in the Amazon rainforest.

In the afternoon, you will return by boat and continue toward the Lake Sandoval area, within the Tambopata National Reserve, one of the most biodiverse regions in Peru.

At night, you will take part in a guided night walk in the Amazon rainforest to search for white caimans along the banks of the Madre de Dios River. You may also observe capybaras and other nocturnal wildlife before returning to the lodge for dinner and rest, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle.

Day 3Lake Sandoval - Puerto Maldonado

After breakfast, you will hike approximately 3 km through the Amazon rainforest to reach Lake Sandoval, one of the richest and most protected ecosystems in the Peruvian Amazon.

There, you will board a rowing boat and explore the lake in silence, surrounded by untouched nature. During the tour, you may observe monkeys, sloths, and exotic birds such as herons, cormorants, and kingfishers, as well as black caimans along the shores. With luck, you may also spot the iconic giant river otter, one of the most emblematic species of the Amazon rainforest Peru.

After this unforgettable wildlife experience, you will return to the lodge to enjoy a traditional Amazonian lunch.

In the afternoon, you will begin your return to Puerto Maldonado, with transfer to your hotel, airport, or bus terminal, concluding your journey through the Peruvian Amazon and Tambopata National Reserve.
