Embark on a breathtaking four-day journey through the heart of the Oriental Andes on our Ausangate + Rainbow Mountain Trek, starting from Cusco. Standing majestically at 6,333 meters above sea level, Ausangate is venerated by the local communities as an Apu, or sacred mountain.

Immerse yourself in the stunning Andean landscapes and the rich culture of the Quechua villages, where traditional practices of communal agriculture and herding of llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas thrive. Join us for an unforgettable exploration of Peru’s majestic southern Andes.

Inclusions

  • Briefing before the trek: briefing the day before the excursion, around 7:00 p.m., led by the guide. Please provide the name of the hotel where you are staying in Cusco.
  • Collection from your hotel: we will pick you up between 04:30 to 05:00 am.
  • Transportation: Tourist bus transfer from your hotel in Cusco to Challacancha, “start of the excursion”, and return to Cusco after completing the hike. We will transfer you to your hotel in Cusco.
  • Experienced and licensed Tour guide: Spanish, English and Quechua speaking guides will accompany you during the excursion, to immerse you in the history, culture and conclude 2 hours and 30 minutes guide tour in Machu picchu.
  • Accommodation: 3 nights campaing in tents.
  • Meals: Enjoy nutritious meals during the excursion (3 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 3 dinners). The food is balanced to keep you energized along the way, with a free vegetarian option upon request in advance.
  • Expert local chefs: We have experienced cooks trained in adventure and mountain cooking. We use new kitchen equipment and kitchenware, as well as a dining tent with portable chairs and tables.

  • Duffel Bag: Duffel Bag: At the pre-trek briefing, you'll receive a duffel bag (max 5 kg). Our team will carry it on horses, and you'll be able to access it at each campsite. After the trek, please return it to our office or leave it at your hostel.
  • Muleteers & horses to carry : An experienced team will transport all necessary gear and supplies on horses or mules, so you can enjoy the trek without having to carry heavy loads.

Excludes

  • Breakfast on the first morning and lunch on the last day.
  • Entrance Tickets :An entry ticket is required each day to access this natural attraction, which is managed by local communities. The fee is 85 Soles, paid directly to support the locals who maintain the area.
  • Drinking water: we dont provide water for refilling cannteen or bottles, but will provide cold/hot at each meal, but you can buy a long the way for cost between 5 to 12 soles per 2.5 litres or you can take a purification tablets for mountain water.
  • Trekking poles: if you dont have them, you can rent from us for the rental cost 10 dollars, the trekking poles are very useful on steep and rough ground. which improves your performance during the excursion.
  • Sleeping bag: If you don't have a sleeping bag, you can rent one from us. The sleeping bags we have are specially designed to keep you warm during the trek, where temperatures can be as low as -10°C. The rental cost is 40 soles (10 dollars) for the whole trip.
  • Travel Insurance: We would advise acquiring one in your country of residence, as obtaining travel insurance in Peru can be Difficult .
  • Tips for our team: You can choose whether or not to give a tip, but we want to make it clear that you don't have to. the people that works on the trek expect a tip,It's up to you. We just want to make it clear that it's optional, not compulsory.

What to Bring

  • Good-quality daypack: It's really important to find a good backpack that's comfortable, light and small, to fill in and carry all your belonging
  • Trekking poles: We really recommend them for the Ausangate Trek and they are very useful. You can rent them from us.
  • Warm hat and gloves: Temperatures can drop, especially in the early morning or on the summit, so these are essential to keep warm.
  • Rain Gear: A rain jacket and rain cover for your backpack will protect you and your belongings from sudden downpours.
  • Waterproof walking boots: Durable footwear with good ankle support and grip will help you to navigate the varied terrain.
  • Layered clothing: The weather can change quickly in the mountains, so you need to wear layers that you can add or remove as needed. This should include a moisture-wicking base layer, an insulating layer and a waterproof outer layer.
  • Sun protection: The sun at high altitudes can be intense. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat to protect against UV rays.
  • Drinking water: Staying hydrated is essential, especially at high altitude. Carry at least 2 litres of water or a Camelbak hydration bladder.
  • Camera or smartphone: Capture the stunning scenery and vibrant colours of the mountain. Make sure your devices are fully charged.
  • Personal first Aid Kit: take altitude sickness medication, painkillers, blister plasters and any personal medication.
  • High-energy snacks: Energy bars, nuts, fruit or chocolate can help maintain your energy levels during the walk.
  • Reusable water bottle or thermos: To avoid littering and to keep your water or drinks at the desired temperature.
  • Emergency money: Please remember to bring extra money for any emergencies that might happen on the trip. is ideal to bring 300 soles/90 dollars and in cash
Itinerary

Cusco – Tinki – Upis – Upis Lake (Optional Hike)

We’ll pick you up from your hotel at 6:00 a.m. and drive you to Tinki in a private van for about two hours. There, you’ll have time for breakfast, to stretch your legs, and to explore this traditional town, where the locals still wear colorful, traditional Andean clothing.

Afterward, you’ll travel for about one more hour along a dusty, bumpy road until you reach the trailhead. There, you can enjoy the views and meet your horsemen and pack animals.

Begin the trek from Upispampa, passing through remote mountain villages and crossing streams along the way. The trail is mostly flat, with some gentle ups and downs. After about 3 hours of hiking, you’ll arrive to Upis (camping spot), where our Tents await.

The cook will prepare a fresh, hearty lunch. In the afternoon, you will have the option of hiking to Upis Lake, The round trip hike takes two hours. The trail is flat for the first 40 minutes and then gradually climbs for the last 20 minutes.

Once you return to the campsite, you can relax with a warm cup of tea and take in the breathtaking view of Ausangate Mountain. Later, you’ll have dinner and head outside to take in the incredible starry sky an unforgettable experience.

Day 2Upis – Arapa Pass – Yana Cocha – Puca Cocha

The day begins early, at 5:00 a.m., when you’ll be gently wake up to a hot cup of coca tea or coffee delivered right to your tent. Then, enjoy a nutritious breakfast.

The hike begins with an ascent to Arapa Pass (16,300 ft / 4,968 m). Along the way, you’ll pass local farmers and herds of alpacas with the majestic Ausangate Mountain on your left. As you move through the stunning landscape, your English-speaking guide will share insights into the area’s flora, fauna, and local traditions.

With a bit of luck, you might spot condors, chinchillas, or vicuñas in the wild. Before reaching your next campsite at Puca Cocha, you’ll enjoy the view of vibrantly colored lakes.

Here, you’ll be surrounded by towering peaks and hanging glaciers. you may even see and hear ice crashing dramatically into the lakes below.

As usual, your tents will be set up inside, where you can rest, change, or take a nap. After enjoying a freshly lunch, you can walk to nearby Puca Cocha Lake, where you can observe Andean geese, wild ducks, and many other species of birds that live at high altitudes.

Enjoy dinner in our rustic stone and adobe dining hut in the evening, then settle in for another night under the stars.

Day 3Puca Cocha – Apacheta Pass – Ananta – Surini Pass – Queulla Cocha

Today will be your most challenging day, but also one of the most rewarding.

You’ll start with a climb up Puca Cocha Pass (16,570 ft / 5,051 m), where you’ll be surrounded by vibrant, multicolored mountains. From the top, you’ll enjoy incredible views of Ausangate Mountain and several stunning glacial lakes.

As you descend, you’ll enter the Red Mountain Valley, a colorful, untouched landscape where llamas graze freely just meters away, creating an unforgettable Andean scene.

we’ll stop for lunch at our mountain dining hut, Afterwards, you’ll climb to Warmi Saya Pass (15,090 ft / 4,500 m), the second climb of the day. From there, you’ll catch your first view of Rainbow Mountain glowing with its iconic colors.

From Warmi Saya pass, you’ll descend to circle a lake. Then, you will continue on “Peruvian flat” terrain, which is a mix of gentle ups and downs, until you reach your final campsite near Queulla Cocha.

If the weather allows, you’ll have the option to hike to Rainbow Mountain for sunset, a truly magical moment to end the day.

Day 4 Queulla Cocha – Rainbow Mountain – Red Valley – Cusco

Today is the day you’ve been waiting for Rainbow Mountain! You’ll wake up at 6:00 a.m. with a warm cup of coca tea delivered to your tent. After breakfast, you’ll hike uphill for 45 minutes to reach stunning Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca).

Once you reach the summit, you’ll have time to explore, take photos, and enjoy the breathtaking landscape. Depending on the weather and the group’s pace, you’ll spend between 30 minutes and 1 hour at the viewpoint.

You’ll arrive back in Cusco around 3:00 p.m., tired but full of unforgettable memories, and be dropped off at main Square or Hotel.
